Plagiarism or misappropriation of ideas

Libel, slander, product or service disparagement, trade libel, infliction of emotional distress, outrage or outrageous conduct

Allow GovTech to completely cover your business from all angles so you can perform hard and rest easy. In addition to required Professional Liability, GovTech offers General Liability coverage against any claim alleging bodily injury, property damage, personal injury (such as defamation of character like slander and libel), advertising injury, and damage to leased premises. Due to the potential stranglehold a large lawsuit may have on a small or mid-sized company, general liability coverage should be considered essential protection.
How it Works
General Liability coverage claims for GovTech members may include circumstances such as:
A customer has a slip and fall accident on your premises and sues you for negligence
You throw a cigarette in a trash can that starts a fire that causes $100,000 of damage to the landlord's building
Your programming or code that controls a machine malfunctions resulting in bodily injury or property damage to a third party
You make a disparaging remark about a competitor and you are sued for slander
Please note that the General Liability coverage does not protect against the types of lawsuits that are covered by a Professional Liability policy (Errors & Omissions). It is absolutely essential that all tech companies carry Professional Liability insurance in addition to General Liability.
Protect yourself against all claims – even if it exceeds your maximum policy limit.
General Liability policies always state a maximum amount the insurer will pay in the case of a judgment. Umbrella policies are generally purchased to cover the business in case they are required to settle for more than the maximum policy limit. The Umbrella insurance policy picks up where the General Liability coverage ends.
Why Choose an Umbrella Policy?
If it is required by contract to protect a customer or another tech company that you are performing work on behalf of.
You want the additional "peace of mind" for a relatively inexpensive price.
Securing an umbrella policy is a valuable risk management tool that will guarantee coverage against significant liability claims. Don’t risk the unknown. Ensure your organization survives even the most threatening suits.
Safety Nets Don’t Seem Necessary Until the Unforeseen Happens. You Owe it to Yourself to Protect Your Name and Your Family.
Can’t happen to you? You run a clean organization? Remember that there are only two things you can be sued for as a corporate director or officer. Something you do. Something you don’t do.
Directors and Officers Insurance may not seem like a topic that you have to worry about, but after reviewing some recent statistics you may think twice.
31% of private companies do not obtain D&O Insurance because they think their D&O risk is low or none, when in reality, 40% of mid-sized companies have faced a D&O lawsuit.
Directors and Officers are liable if they are found to lack requisite care of the company; i.e. due to negligence and failure to keep up to date with company information to make the best decisions for the firm.
Not only do Directors and Officers face risks, owners invested in a company can easily face similar risks.
95% of Fortune 500 companies maintain Directors and Officers ("D&O") liability insurance today.
31% of all companies could expect to have at least one claim made against its Directors or Officers.
A company is not required to provide indemnification; therefore, as a Director, Officer or Owner, you want as much indemnification as you can get.
How it Works
Directors and Officers Insurance (D&O) is designed to protect business owners, directors and officers of a corporation from liability in the event of a claim or lawsuit against them in connection with the company’s business. D&O provides financial protection in the event they are sued in conjunction with the performance of their duties as they relate to the company. These suits may result from employees, customers, competitors, or clients of the corporation, who feel negligent management is to blame for financial or other loss.
This policy is necessary for directors and officers of every company if they wish to avoid potential litigation such as:
Wrongful dismissal of an employee
Failure of supervision
Inaccuracy in statements of financial accounts
Lack of judgment and good faith
Mismanagement of funds
Unauthorized loans or investments
Failure to obtain competitive bids
Imprudent expansion resulting in a loss
Unwarranted dividend payment, salaries or compensation
Misrepresentation in acquisition agreement for the purchase of another company
D&O insurance also covers policyholders outside of the “office”. Personal assets (your home, valuables, and other personal items of value) are protected within this policy.
Covered persons under the GovTech D&O policy include the named insured, present and past employees, officers, owners, or directors/management of the organization and any legal representatives of deceased directors and officers.
GovTech will pay on behalf of the insured, up to the policy limits, for losses that the insured becomes legally liable for as a result of a claim arising out of the wrongful acts committed by the insured during the conduct of the insured business. GovTech will also provide supplementary payments in respect to any claim investigated, settled or defended for the insured.
Individually, you and your executive team have worked too hard and sacrificed too much to let it slip away. It’s time to protect yourself, your family – and your organization. While most policies are designed to protect your organization, it’s time to start thinking about the impact a claim may have on you personally. GovTech can provide you with the coverage you need to ensure individual peace of mind.
Don’t let the irresponsible and wrongful actions of one destroy the future of your business.
Did you know:
Employment Practice Liability Insurance Judgments, or EPLI Judgment awards increased almost 3 fold at 275% in recent years.
Employment Practices Liability issues comprise 30% of all civil litigation in the U.S. Court.
Age discrimination liability suits are rising more than any other sector of EPL cases.
According to court verdicts, the employee is deemed right most of the time.
The Department of Labor cites that, employees and other plaintiffs won almost half or 41% of all jury decided trials and 26% of all non-jury trials.
Punitive damages being assessed 19% of the time.
The fact is sexual harassment, discrimination, and other employment related suits are on the rise – and they can bankrupt your company. According to national data from Jury Verdict Research®, for smaller companies that do not have Employment Practices Liability Insurance or maintain EPLI, the average cost to defend employment practices law suits are in excess of $100,000 for a single plaintiff and class action suits ranging over $3,000,000.
Therefore, EPLI has been a welcomed policy for companies looking to protect themselves against workplace-liability claims. GovTech will work with you to minimize your risk.
GovTech EPLI coverage includes:
Discrimination
Harassment
Wrongful Termination
Failure to Hire or Promote
All Third Party Defense Costs for Employee Suits
In the past several years, employers have become increasing aware of their legal responsibility for an employee’s action. While an employee may be responsible for harassment or discrimination, it is the organization that will be held ultimately responsible.
Employment Practices Liability Insurance covers losses that would not be covered by Directors & Officers (D&O) coverage or Comprehensive General Liability. EPLI is a specialized kind of insurance, designed to protect your company against employee-related issues in today’s litigious society.
While similar, EPLI covers employers from claims made by workers who have sued the company for violating their legal rights as employees. D&O provides insurance for negligent acts, omissions or misleading statements primarily committed by Directors & Officers of a company that also result in a lawsuit. So while they are similar in that we are protecting the Director and/or Officer of the company or company itself, there are different requirements for both.
